York Excursion... well, what can I say?! Everybody who knows me is very familiar with the fact that I prefer Scotland over England just as much as chocolate over vegetables. But still I enjoyed the York-Excursion *a lot*... and here's why (sorry, I didn't manage to pick just one highlight... ):
Just being in York and Yorkshire and feeling the "English atmosphere" was well worth all the money we spent for the trip. The houses, the streets, all those nice, tiny little shops in the pedestrian area, the tea, all that much too sweet English food-stuff, the supermarkets, being seated in a restaurant, queuing, being able to buy cheap books... it felt wonderful being a part of it all again!
The quiz in and on the wall
After having finished a walk around the city wall, one of the "bars" or gates offers a little interactive quiz. You (and three other players) run along the wall once more - in virtual reality on a video screen – and stop every few hundred metres in order to answer a question about the part of the wall you stop at. If you read all the info boards along the way, you are well prepared for the test. But even if you didn't (and just enjoyed the beautiful views you have from the wall), you have a chance of winning the game... When we tried it the second time (and basically all of us knew all the answers) a little child with a very "random approach" to the game managed to come in second, even before a nearly-graduated, very sophisticated student of our university...;-). The wall and its quiz... a must-see in the wide range of York sights!!!
